CAMBODIA, PONG TUK
According to UNICEF, children in Cambodia fall behind in school for a couple of reasons. Often, they are not well prepared for school and they experience poor quality teaching and learning. Probably this is why they attend school irregularly. This eventually leads to many of them dropping out altogether. Additionally, many parents cannot understand the value of education and most cannot afford to send their children to school, particularly in rural areas.
In Prei Changha, students from three surrounding villages travel to attend school from kindergarten through grade six. Of the five classrooms at the school, three are wooden buildings with tiled roofs.
These three are in desperate need of reconstruction, as they have deteriorated over time and threaten collapsing, a serious risk to the children’s safety.
Construction Period: Mar 2018 - Oct 2018
5 Furnished Classrooms + 5 toilets
To provide a safe learning environment for the 453 children aged 5 to 12, and deal with the increasing number of students, the Acronis Foundation will support the construction of a school building in collaboration with the Swiss non-profit organization Child’s Dream. The 360‑square-meter facility will feature five completely furnished classrooms and five toilets. Construction will start in March 2018 and will be completed by the end of October.
To create a feeling of solidarity and ensure the project is fully supported by the villagers, the local community will participate in the construction process and help to organize the opening celebration.
