CONTEXT
UNESCO reports that the Malawi literacy rate is only 62.14%. Fortunately, there are signs of growth in the country. The youth literacy rate, in particular, increased from 68% in 2000 to 75% in 2015. Education in Malawi consists of eight years of compulsory education from age six to thirteen.
Attendance in secondary school falls to approximately 25%, with males attending slightly more than females. Additionally, dropout rates are higher for girls than boys, largely because of security problems during long walks to school where girls face a higher prevalence of gender-based violence.
The country is consistently ranked among the world’s 20 least developed countries on the UN Human Development Index. 71% of its population lives below the poverty line of $1.90 USD per day.

Construction of a school building with two classrooms and sanitary facilities

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
In July 2020, a group of Acronis employees will go on a trek to Malawi to start construction of a school building in one of the remote villages.
The team will break ground and start the construction process, which will be completed by the community after their departure. All the travel expenses are paid for by Acronis, not taken from donations.
115 students will benefit from this school project. We will provide more information soon!
